Welcome to Our Class!
This is my sixth year at Lee Hill Elementary. I am very excited to be a 5th grade teacher again this year! I hope to see many of the same faces I saw when I was a 2nd grade teacher in 2011. I am looking forward to having a successful year with all my students.
A little info about me... I have been married for almost 20 years and have one daughter who just turned 20. I grew up in Stafford County and live there now. I have a Jack Russell named Shortie and two cats, Punkin and Freckles.
I love to fish and play in the river. I spent a lot of time this summer on the Potomac River. I caught some unusual things this year: a stingray and an eel! I usually catch catfish, croaker, bass, and red fish. I was very excited when I caught a stingray but then I was almost afraid to go back into the water to swim! I also found some fossilized sharks teeth on the beach. It was so much fun to look for those!
I also love to read, draw/paint, garden, and crochet. My favorite books are mysteries and young adult fantasy. I absolutely love the Harry Potter series and I read all seven books every year. Another favorite is the Septimus Heap series. I finished the last book in the series this summer, so I look forward to reading all of those again. I find something new every time I read them again.
I know we are going to have an exciting year in 5th grade. There are lots of things we will discover together -especially in science. I believe that science is a hands-on subject so we will be doing many experiments and activities this year. I cannot wait until we study volcanoes!
I hope to have a lot of parent volunteers this year. Parents are a very important part of the learning environment. If you are interested in helping out in the classroom, please email me right away! Students always love to have their parents come in and help out. If you are not able to come into the classroom but can help in other ways, please let me know that, too.
I created this website to help students and parents keep up on what is happening in our classroom. Please check it frequently for homework assignments, newsletters, word study, and general information. If you have any suggestions on how I can make this website better, please let me know.
Here's to an awesome and successful 2014-2015 school year!
